habeas corpus, r.i.p. - molly ivins.

what can one say?

a law which makes it legal to :

  • imprison without trial;

  • imprison without charge, even;

  • torture;

  • refuse the detainee the right to challenge his / her imprisonment.

the u.s.a. is now exactly like hitler's germany and stalin's u.s.s.r. - there is no control whatsoever over the executive branch. they can do as they please with anyone they please without charge, without evidence, without judicial review, without habeas corpus - without any control at all.

the u.s.a. has become a hell on earth.

i'll never visit the shit-hole again until these laws are repealed.

i will also never, ever, ever support a british politician who treats the americans as friends and who does not do everything in their power to remove the agreement between the u.s.a. and the u.k. which allows extradition to the u.s.a. of anyone who's charged with any crime over there, as those people could be imprisoned forever, tortured or killed without anyone knowing what's happened to them, 'cos there's no judicial control over their detention.
